LightForce 170 versus NiteStalker Roo Lites

Posted on February 26th, 2007 Author: Link

A lot of people are taking notice of the new NiteStalker Roo Lites, and for good reason. On the surface, they appear to be similar to the popular LightForce 170’s, and yet they are a fair bit cheaper in comparison.

So what are the differences between them? Here’s a few casual observations..

  • Both have similar light output
  • The reflector on the Roo Lite’s is slightly larger, and made of metal.
  • The Roo Lite’s are heavier.
  • The Roo Lite’s are not waterproof, whereas the 170’s are.
  • The 170’s are Australian made, whereas the Roo Lite’s are made in Taiwan - spare parts may be more readily available for LightForce due to its local manufacture.

Which is the tougher light? I’d certainly be quite happy to put them through a torture test purely for scientific purposes, however I doubt the companies will be in any great hurry to give me a crack at destroying their lights. One thing to note though is that LightForce has built its reputation on being tough, whilst the NiteStalkers are still new to the market and yet to be proven. Time will certainly reveal all.

So there does seem to be a number of advantages to the LightForce 170’s, but is it worth the difference in price? That part I’ll leave up to you.
