Everyone venturing off road should be carrying their own recovery gear. Whether it be a simple snatch strap, or a fully kitted out self recovery pack, it's important that you make use of your own gear, even when being recovered by someone else. It's an off-road courtesy that goes a long way with other four wheel drivers.
Recovery Gear Basics
At an absolute minimum, you should be carrying at least one snatch strap, a couple of shackles, and some gloves. Many Recovery Kits come complete with these items in a handy carry bag, and then expand their range of recovery items from there. You should also ensure your 4WD is fitted with proper recovery points before even considering heading off-road. A shovel can also come in very handy. Even handier is to ensure you have another vehicle travelling with you, and ensuring you are both competent with your vehicles and have a proper understanding of their limitations.
Recovery Gear Advanced
When you start venturing further off road, tackling tougher terrain, or head off by yourself (not recommended) recovery gear becomes a part of everyday life. This is where Hi-Lift jacks, exhaust jacks, winches, and additional recovery gear becomes a necessity.
